There are few words to express the last week. Amazing, eye-opening, and a fascinating are a few that come to mind. I spent this last week with the Health Network in Cap Haitien. I was part of a three person Pharmacy team (two professors of pharmacy and myself) from Roosevelt University that came to visit and observe various clinics in the network, and implement labeling and inventory systems within the pharmacies at the clinics.
My reasons for coming revolve mainly around accessibility to technology; mainly cell phones. I started a project called www.globalmobal.org that currently operates in Kenya. After the trip to Haiti, I’m confident Global Mobal can add value to the Network and the Haitian people.
During this trip we were able to distribute about 12 cell phones within the Network. I believe it is very import for all the clinics personnel to have access to communication technology, and that being my major goal in Haiti.
With plans to return to Haiti in March to further continue our initial work, I would appreciate and am very open to suggestions on how to best use the phones.
The hospitality from everyone in the Network is unbelievably amazing! THANK YOU!
